About
Slough Music Service is the local authority music service for Slough, based at the Slough Borough Council Offices, located in the heart of the town on Bath Road. We are non-profit service funded by central government and supported by Slough Borough Council to provide enhanced musical experiences for children and young people in Slough.
We aim to offer tailored services to meet the needs of each young musician, school and teacher in Slough, in line with the priorities of the local authority and central government. We achieve this by working closely with schools to deliver an integrated programme of vocal and instrumental tuition, a range of supporting workshops and events and training for teachers and other adults and young people.
Some of this work is delivered directly by music service staff, whilst we place significant importance on enabling school-based staff and young music leaders to deliver music at a level appropriate to their skills. We also work with local and national partners to offer a broad range of opportunities for all.
We are supported by Slough Borough Council in our strategic planning and day to day business activity. We also benefit from the advice of the music service steering group comprising music leaders and head teachers from primary and secondary schools in Slough as well as representatives from our arts partners in the area.
Our key aims are:
- Support schools and other education settings to deliver high-quality music education
- Support young people to develop their musical interests and talent further, including into employment
- Support all children and young people to engage in a range of musical opportunities in and out of school
Slough has an exciting, vibrant and diverse community. Creativity leads our ethos, keeping us at the leading edge of music development locally and nationally.
In response to the governments restructuring of music education in 2012, Slough Music Service is the lead organisation of the Slough Music Education Hub. This network brings together organisations and individuals who deliver music services to children and young people with those who use our services, from schools, teachers and students and those in our community who benefit from the power of music.
