Slough Music Service runs an annual gifted musicians programme which targets pupils in years 5 and 8 who show a natural aptitude for music (giftedness) rather than necessarily playing a musical instrument (talented).

The focus is around creative composition, which we are enhancing this year with a cross-arts aspect, involving drama, movement, film making and animation.

We chose the theme of regeneration, as it suggests many aspects of life in our community; nature, the built environment (very pertinent in Slough at the moment), personal journeys, family and much more. The essence of the project is for the pupils to bring out the matters that are important to them, and explore them through song-writing, composing and the expressive arts.

The project is managed and funded by Slough Music Service with creative advice from Anne Brown, creative arts advisor for Slough Borough Council. Artistic leaders are from 4Motion Dance Theatre (www.4motiondancetheatre.co.uk) and Hatch My Ideas (www.hatchmyideas.co.uk).

There a 4 groups of students - one in the Langley Area, one in the Burnham area (both primary students), one at James Elliman Primary and one at The West Wing Arts Centre with St Joseph's School students. Please see the separate articles for each group, which explains the work they are doing.

The group will perform their work on the first night of the Slough Young Musicians' Festival, on March 23rd 2011
